Fabriqué
constructed images in fabric
a 2 day workshop with Denise Vanderlugt
Thu 15th and Fri 16th July 10 am to 4 pm $140
Denise specializes in hand stitched pictorial quilts. Working with a variety of appliqué techniques, Denise will teach her unique method of construction, concentrating on the student's own ideas and personal inspiration. In 2007, Denise published her children's book "Where Rainbows Live", illustrated with small quilts, the script embroidered onto linen.
The Fabriqué method of construction is derived from existing traditional appliqué techniques, and a realistic or abstract effect can be achieved.
River
community art installation
a 3 day Masterclass with Rita Summers
Sat 17th, Sun 18th and Mon 19th July 10 am to 4 pm $200
Participants will work with Rita on the creation of an installation representing a river in all its beauty and complexity. The finished work of cut, torn, layered, woven, collaged, appliquéd, stitched, embellished and dyed textiles will roll out and undulate in the public garden outside the gallery.
Rita's relaxed and holistic teaching approach impressed students in her hyperbolic crochet workshop at the gallery in September 2009, with comments such as, "Wonderful... a spontaneous combustion of wisdom, talent and experience"
Drawing 'n Machine Sewing 'n Recycled Papers
a 2 day workshop with Svea Bjornsson
Thu 22nd and Fri 23 July 10 am to 4 pm $140
Svea's intricate recycled paper art works wowed audiences at last year's La Pompa Wearable Art event. She returns to Warwick this year to teach a workshop that explores the joy of recycling 'rubbish', such as used tea bags, chocolate wrappers and cardboard milk cartons, into beautiful works of art incorporating painting and drawing of figurative and landscape imagery. A fun, friendly and informative workshop with no special skills required. All are welcome.
Second Life
sculptural coil forms
a 2 day workshop with Mary Barron
Tue 20th and Wed 21st July 10 am to 4 pm $140
Mary's unique and innovative art works using recycled materials have become an integral part of the Jumpers and Jazz tree jumper exhibition over the last several years. In this workshop she will work with each participant to make a sculpture from old clothes using a coiling technique. Sewn together with knitting cotton, the sculptural forms may be embellished with buttons and scraps of fabric. Mary will share several variations of the coiling technique and ways to apply them to achieve a variety of affects.
